Just a few minutes ago, before I read Dean's works about particle accumulation in the center of the Earth, I thought of an answer. It might not be new to anyone. Some time ago I was taught that a hollow magnet traps magnetic particles in its center. It makes me wonder if the "Smoking God" story came from someone's real experience.
Maybe there is a hot ball of iron at the center of the Earth, suspended magnetically. I've also thought that there could be some singularities involved, which can also be trapped magnetically because a charged spinning singularity is magnetic. Also, even though they're not thinking what I'm thinking, or what hollow earth believers are thinking, scientists do say that the earth's core is iron, quite hot.
The outside sun can contribute charged particles which will help heat it up inside.
I don't know if my idea about how gravitation works in the hollow Earth has any merit at all. I don't know that physicists have bothered to work it out using either Newton's or Einstein's theory of gravitation. There is tantalizing evidence that electrical charges of more than 150,000 volts do things to gravity itself, and you can read some of it in the Wikipedia entry on electrogravitics. That's handwaving but what the heck.
Magnetic fields consist of lines of force that attempt to be circular, that come closest to each other at their source. They are like Hula hoops that repel each other. A charged particle will follow those circles one way if it is positively charged and the other if it is negatively charged. It will make the loop until it hits something.
Please, do you care to read a book on the Hollow Earth by 'some one' who knows what its all about?
Life After Life
On the rough path of life
An immortal
I painfully and happily strive.
An alchemist of old,
The journey I un-end 'til base metals
I have turned to Gold.
