Stations
The Soviet Union built a scientific station by the name of Oazis in the center of the area at 66°16'29"S, 100°44'49"E, starting October 15, 1956, with two buildings for eight people. The station was handed over to Poland on January 23, 1959, and was renamed A. B. Dobrowolski Station (named after Antoni Dobrowolski). It continued to be occupied for a few weeks only thereafter. On February 22, 1979 (with preparations starting February 18) the station was reactivated for a short time, but an overwintering attempt failed, and the occupants had to be evacuated to Mirny Station (350 km/220 mi to the west) on March 17.
The concrete pillar erected by the First Polish Antarctic Expedition at Dobrowolski Station in January 1959 for gravity measurements, and the magnetic observatory at the station with plaque in memory of the opening of Oazis Station in 1956, are recognized as Antarctic Historic Sites.[2]
The Soviet Union became interested in the Bunger Hills again in the late 1980s, and built a new station - Oazis-2 - a few hundred metres to the west of Dobrowolski. The station was used for summer visits up to the mid-1990s.
About 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) WNW of Dobrowolski, at 66°15'S,100°36'E, Australia has maintained the summer-only station Edgeworth David Base, named after Edgeworth David, since 1986.

Bunger Hills, also known as Bunger Lakes or Bunger Oasis, is a coastal range on the Knox Coast in Wilkes Land in Antarctica, consisting of a group of moderately low, rounded coastal hills, overlain by morainic drift and notably ice free throughout the year, lying south of the Highjump Archipelago.[1] The reasoning behind the minute amount of ice in the area is still relatively unknown and remains under intense debate amongst scientists today.
The Bunger Hills are surrounded by glaciers. On the southeast the Bunger Hills is bordered by the steep slopes of the Antarctic ice sheet, on the south and west by outlet glaciers, and on the north by Shackleton Ice Shelf, which separates the area from the open sea. The ice-free area measures 450 km2 (174 sq mi), according to some sources even 750 or 942 km2 (290 or 364 sq mi) (though these latter values include a marine area not covered by continental ice or the Shackleton Ice Shelf). The topography is characterized by rugged hills, and there are many freshwater and salt lakes. The largest and deepest lake, Algae Lake (Lake Figurnoye) is 25 km (16 mi) long and up to 137 metres (449 ft) deep. The leader of Operation Highjump, Admiral Richard E. A SIX-INCH HUMANOID

This case has been widely published and exhaustively investigated and documented with a 100 plus page report on the case, exploring every possible explanation. It is a single witness case involving an anonymous ordained priest. He was 34 years old at the time of the incident, well respected in his community, where he had served as Parish Priest for 11 years. The father (you can see him here) was sent by his governess to go pick edible Champignon mushrooms in the forest just outside of Reneve, France. She told him that the mushrooms grew best right along the edge of the forest, so that’s where he went, following along a dirt road that led to the forest. He had some trouble finding mushrooms, but managed to pick some and started to head back.
FATHER: “I noticed a last bush, and it was when I wanted to get up that I saw on my left, in full sunlight, this tiny little creature.”
The father was absolutely astonished. It was a beautifully sunlit day and the father had a perfect view of the little humanoid. The creature was advancing towards the father and was no more than 3 feet away. The father could immediately see that it was a human-looking figure, normal except for his extremely diminutive size.
FATHER: A rather chubby gentleman, he was potbellied, corpulent…very strong, robust, he was someone who had robust health…a man in miniature. He had a little bit of a beard, not abundant, in gray-white. He walked very quickly…He came up to me and stared at me. He was as if out of breath, staring at me, and I was staring at him. You could see that he was out of breath, that he was an old man…I’d give him an age of 70-75… What caught my attention above all was his face and his eyes… He wore a rust-brown combination…a kind of jumpsuit. No buttons, no belt, no seams. The hands ended in a kind of mittens, the thumb and the fingers all enclosed. The feet, they were a kind of boots. They were all one, but they were flexible. Everything all made of a single garment.”
One peculiar detail about the little creature’s outfit (which was skintight but flexible) was the presence of a pike, a rod, like a thorn, cream-colored, strapped to his side or back. It stuck up over his head a about a half inch and went down to his feet. The father had the impression that it was a weapon used to perhaps probe the ground or defend himself against wildlife. Or perhaps an antenna of some kind.
The father’s first impulse was to gently pick him up and ask him who he was, where he came from, what he was doing here, if he needed anything. He appeared to the father to be in some kind of distress.
FATHER: I had an impression of fear and that he was in a hurry. You could feel that he was in a hurry. He seemed to me exhausted and frightened…He seemed to dread my presence. He seemed fearful of me…his piercing eyes seemed filled with fear, and at the same time, to wan tto observe me. He wanted to know who I was, what I was doing.”
The father wondered if the little man was rushing to deliver information, or on some kind of mission for survival. The little figure kept walking, turning his head to keep the father in view. He passed about 1-2 feet away from the father, then disappeared into a thicket that, as the father says was “impenetrable even for a rat or a cat.” Says the father, “He passed 30 centimeters away from me while looking at me intensely.”
The duration of the encounter was only about 15 seconds. He saw no footprints, heard no sounds, smelled nothing unusual. He felt disappointed that he let the figure escape. His astonishment was so great that he simply returned home. He wanted to return the next day with a sickle and investigate the area, but the next few days it rained heavily.
He waited 30 years to share his story because, as he says, “I did not want to spread this affair to an audience that was no qualified, because I knew that this story was terribly improbable. I said nothing in my parish, I only told it to my family, my governess and my brothers and sisters.”
Later, investigators tried to say that the priest had encountered a miniature monkey from an escaped army regiment or a traveling circus. The priest however remained adamant that he had seen a little man. He remains uncertain whether the little man was from Earth or perhaps an ET.
