Thoughts on sleep paralysis?

Anyone have any experiences?

KARLOS KASTANEDA BOOK 12 BOOK

I know someone who has struggled seriously with sleep paralysis for some time. I'll see what they have to say about this and share it amongst some others I know who have also mentioned this phenomena before.

@hanuman7 are you referring to this book by Carlos Castaneda: "The Active Side of Infinity"

One person I asked had a family member who used to see a "jelly bean man" that was perhaps around four feet tall that would stare at him from the foot of the bed when he was about five (or six) years old - said he had a purplish skinned face with no features and presumably looked like a jellybean head. Perhaps something like this (although he may have worn a "suit" - but I'm not sure what they meant by that):

@yellowek, I have struggled with sleep paralysis for many years. I only seem to have it when I wake up and shortly go back to bed and try to sleep. I think I get it every time I wake up and go back to bed, especially if I didnā€™t get 7 or 8 hours of sleep. If I got 6 hours or less of sleep and go back to bed, I usually get sleep paralysis. Iā€™ve had it so many times in my life that I couldnā€™t count, but I am very familiar with it. I havenā€™t had it super recently, but in the past, I got very little sleep and went back to bed regularly, so I have experienced it a lot.

When I first remember having sleep paralysis, I was terrified by it, and I didnā€™t know what to think about it except a lot of fear and terror. I think the first time I can remember having it, I was lying in bed in the afternoon, and the sun was shining through my window. The room was well-lit, and I remember seeing little dark or black shadow creatures that looked like elves running from my closet to my bed and all around my bed. I also heard this horrible screaming, ringing, screeching sound in my ears, and I was paralyzed. All I could do was open my eyes. I think after a while, I either fell asleep or gained movement and was able to break free.

After so much experience with it, it is pretty much the same every time with slight variations. When I first experienced sleep paralysis, I was super terrified by it and didnā€™t know what caused it or how to avoid it or get out of it when it happened. But after going through it so much, I think I have the answers now.

First, Iā€™ll explain what my sleep paralysis is usually like and what I feel and experience. It usually starts right after I have entered some form of sleep, when I fall asleep shortly after waking up from little sleep, like 4 or 6 hours. Once I enter this stage of sleep, I think I immediately wake up in paralysis. After I gain awareness of my consciousness and know I am not in a dream, itā€™s kind of like being 3/4 awake and conscious, from my experience. So when I realize I canā€™t move and I try to move, I start hearing this horrible ringing in my ears, like blood is rushing in my ears and in my head. The more I struggle and try to move and get scared, the more I hear this ringing and blood rushing.

I try to keep my eyes closed so I donā€™t start seeing creepy things. I think if I open my eyes and try to look around, I see creepy things like dark figures or something, but usually, I canā€™t even open my eyes because they are on my pillow, and I canā€™t move, so my pillow or blankets are obstructing most of my vision. Either way, I usually donā€™t open my eyes, and I think my eyelids might be paralyzed most of the time. I havenā€™t experienced it for a while, so maybe Iā€™m not remembering this right, but the reason I canā€™t see anything or feel like I canā€™t open my eyes is because most of my sleep paralysis happens when the room is dark, and I canā€™t see anything anyway.

So after realizing I am experiencing sleep paralysis, instead of panicking and trying to move and getting an elevated heartbeat, I just calm down and try to lay still and do nothing. Iā€™ve found this works the best for me. Once I lay still and wait, I either fall asleep normally or gain the ability to move, and moving breaks everything going on in my sleep paralysis.

My belief is that sleep paralysis is when a chemical in your brain doesnā€™t get released properly with other chemicals that are responsible for detaching your spirit from your body. I believe when we sleep, our spirits get detached from our bodies and experience other things while still being connected to our bodies like a tether. If that tether or connection to our bodies were broken, then we would probably be dead. So for me, I think the chemicals for making me be asleep and not conscious are disrupted, but the chemicals responsible for making you paralyzed while you sleep are not.

Basically, it feels like my spirit is not all the way in my body, so I feel like I am awake but do not have control over my body. This is why I also feel like I am 3/4 awake or conscious because breaking out of sleep paralysis almost feels like you gain more consciousness. Itā€™s kind of weird, but I feel like even when I am aware of everything and know I am having sleep paralysis and can even look around sometimes, I feel like I am in a halfway point between sleep and being awake, and clearly, something isnā€™t right in your body and spirit while you are experiencing this.

I think the reason for people seeing demons or feeling dark creatures sitting on them while they are in sleep paralysis, or seeing creepy things in sleep paralysis, is because your spirit is not completely in your body. So you are partially in the spirit world and partially experiencing reality in your body and are conscious. I think maybe you are seeing actual beings, and your brain and eyes are trying to perceive them. Also, I think your brain and fears can manifest the perception of creatures being there that are scary and creepy to you because you are experiencing something scary and canā€™t move your body.

I donā€™t really know exactly what goes on there, but I think you could potentially be seeing actual spiritual beings that maybe are trying to make you scared or have greater fear while you are in this vulnerable state. Whatever it is, for me, I can avoid sleep paralysis completely if I just keep my sleep schedule normal and donā€™t go back to sleep shortly after getting little sleep. Also, if I get 6 or less hours of sleep and stay up many hours and go back to sleep later, I donā€™t think I get it. For some reason, I think there is a point where I can experience sleep paralysis after I wake up.

I think if I go to sleep very quickly after I wake up, like within 30 minutes, I donā€™t experience sleep paralysis. But if I stay up for an hour or a few and try to go back to sleep, then I get it. I think something about waking up after not getting enough sleep is messing with my hormones or chemicals in my brain, and then staying up for a certain amount of time is creating some sort of system that sets up sleep paralysis to happen. Again, I donā€™t know which chemicals are doing this or even how any of this works. I just think it has to do something with this because Iā€™ve experienced this the same way many times, and it happens the same way every time.

I also think the ringing or loud rushing sound in my ears has to do with being in a state of partial sleep and consciousness. Iā€™ve done research about lucid dreaming, the practice of remaining conscious in dreams and being able to control your dreams and be conscious in them, which Iā€™ve actually experienced a few times, and it was very cool. Anyways, Iā€™ve heard from people that when you are trying to lucid dream, one of the methods you use to lucid dream makes you experience ringing or a loud rushing and pounding sound and feeling in your head and ears. When you experience this, you are about to enter a dream, and hopefully, you can get lucid because you are conscious while you are experiencing this.

This leads me to believe that when I feel this pounding and ringing in my head, I am partially awake and partially asleep and stuck in this state of my spirit not being completely in control of my body and partially out of my body because it is probably trying to eject out of my body and do something else while my body sleeps.

Anyways, I hope this helps. Sorry if itā€™s too long.

YES VOLADORES ENTITETS DANGER

@hanuman7 thanks for clarifying. I see - you're referring to voladores as predatory entities that drain energy, fitting with Castanedaā€™s view of unseen forces influencing human perception. It makes sense how this could tie into the oppressive feelings or shadowy figures people encounter during sleep paralysis. Have you or anyone you know experienced this connection directly? Curious to hear more about how you interpret their presence or how to counteract them.

@RealityCortex thank you SO much for sharing this very personal and powerful experience!!! This is an amazing and highly personal share. It sounds like you have a lot that you could teach us.

Regarding the works of Carlos Castaneda, these appear to be all twelve of his works in order:

He Nag Hammadi Library was discovered in 1945 buried in a large stone jar in the desert outside the modern Egyptian city of Nag Hammadi. It is a collection of religious and philosophic texts gathered and translated into Coptic by fourth-century Gnostic Christians and translated into English by dozens of highly reputable experts. First published in 1978, this is the revised 1988 edition supported by illuminating introductions to each document. The library itself is a diverse collection of texts that the Gnostics considered to be related to their heretical philosophy in some way. There are 45 separate titles, including a Coptic translation from the Greek of two well-known works: the Gospel of Thomas, attributed to Jesus' brother Judas, and Plato's Republic. The word gnosis is defined as "the immediate knowledge of spiritual truth." This doomed radical sect believed in being here now--withdrawing from the contamination of society and materiality--and that heaven is an internal state, not some place above the clouds. That this collection has resurfaced at this historical juncture is more than likely no coincidence. --P. Randall Cohan --This text refers to the Paperback edition

The Nag Hammadi Library is a priceless glimpse into a tumultous world of ideas with the potential to change today's views of religion, reality, and ourselves. Over three decades in preparation, it contains all the documents of the secret Gnostic writings from the time of Christ unearthed near the Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi. It is a work of major importance to everyone interested in Egypt, archaeology, the Bible, the evolution of Christianity, and the story of Western civilization. The Nag Hammadi Library includes a full account of the discovery of the Library, an English translation of each tractate, and a commentary by the editors and translators."

Archons (Greek: į¼„ĻĻ‡Ļ‰Ī½, romanized: Ć”rchōn, plural: į¼„ĻĻ‡ĪæĪ½Ļ„ĪµĻ‚, Ć”rchontes), in Gnosticism and religions closely related to it, are the builders of the physical universe. Among the Archontics, Ophites, Sethians and in the writings of Nag Hammadi library, the archons are rulers, each related to one of seven planets; they prevent souls from leaving the material realm. The political connotation of their name reflects rejection of the governmental system, as flawed without chance of true salvation.[1] In Manichaeism, the archons are the rulers of a realm within the "Kingdom of Darkness", who together make up the Prince of Darkness. In The Hypostasis of the Archons, the physical appearance of Archons is described as hermaphroditic, with their faces being those of beasts.[2][3][4]

Hebdomad

[edit]

A characteristic feature of the Gnostic concept of the universe is the role played in almost all Gnostic systems by the seven world-creating archons, known as the Hebdomad (Koinē Greek: į¼‘Ī²Ī“ĪæĪ¼Ī¬Ļ‚). These Seven are, in most systems, semi-hostile powers and are reckoned as the last and lowest emanations of the Godhead; below themā€”and frequently considered as proceeding from themā€”comes the world of the devilish powers. There are indeed certain exceptions; Basilides taught the existence of a "great archon" called Abraxas who presided over 365 archons.[5]

Evidently, from works such as the Apocryphon of John, the Ophite Diagrams, On the Origin of the World and Pistis Sophia, archons play an important role in Gnostic cosmology. Probably originally referring to the Greek daimons of the planets, in Gnosticism they became the demonic rulers of the material world, each associated with a different celestial sphere.[6] As rulers over the material world, they are called į¼„ĻĻ‡ĪæĪ½Ļ„ĪµĻ‚ (archontes, "principalities", or "rulers"). As with Classical astronomy, which thought of a sphere of fixed stars above the spheres of the seven planets,[7] beyond the spheres of the evil archons (Hebdomad), there were the supercelestial regions which a soul must reach by gnosis to escape the dominion of the archons. This place is thought of as the abode of Sophia (Wisdom) and Barbelo, also called Ogdoad.

Naming and associations

[edit]

The Ophites accepted the existence of these seven archons (Origen, Contra Celsum, vi. 31; a nearly identical list is given in On the Origin of the World):[8]

  • Yaldabaoth, called also Saklas who emerged later,[9] Archon of fornication [10] and Samael
    • Saturn.
    • 2nd Heaven. 6th Heaven and 7th Heaven. 8th Heaven. Cast into Tartarus[11][10]
    • Feminine name: Pronoia (Forethought) Sambathas, "week."
    • Prophets:[12] Moses, Joshua, Amos, Habakkuk.
    • From Hebrew **yalda bahut, "Child of Chaos"? The outermost who created the six others, and therefore the chief ruler and Demiurge par excellence. Called "the Lion-faced", leontoeides.

SUPER LINK The Hypostasis of the Archons ā€” Gnostic scriptures

One of the texts discovered at Nag Hammadi, this treatise explains more details about the story told in Genesis / Bereshit, in particular about the origin and cause of suffering. As with any genuine scripture, understanding the message of the text requires a solid understanding of the doctrine it comes from - that is, one must first know Kabbalah and Alchemy, the two aspects of the secret doctrine that were symbolized in Genesis as the two trees in the Garden of Eden. Therefore, if the notes and explanations provided here are not sufficient to illuminate the wisdom contained in this scripture, return to it after studying and meditating on the two trees as explained in Gnosis. This scripture is worth returning to again and again, for there is much of value to extract here.

First, some terminology:

  • Archon: (Greek) Literally, "prince" or "ruler." Esoterically, primordial planetary spirits.

Hey I'll share my personal thoughts. Three years ago, I successfully defended myself from an attack by a lower-astral entity (I'll explain what I mean by that soon). Ever since then, I'm prepared to defend myself. If they try to attack me via sleep paralysis again I just use this method. If this helps one person I would say it was worth it.

Firstly, I want you to keep an open mind. I never believed this stuff myself until I kept getting sleep paralysis and attacked my these "nightmares".

Secondly, I need to preface this with the research I've done and my own experience to help you understand what's going on. Demons and negative entities exist, there is a hidden plane which we cannot see (but some people can via third eye) because they are vibrating at a higher frequency. I know of people that have seen ghosts but the person right beside them couldn't see anything. It's because their frequency was too low and couldn't precieve it.

As you walk around, eat, and sleep there could be negative entities looking at you. If you're doing negative actions (like smoking, drinking, doing drugs, negative music, negative thoughts, watching horror movies) this will attract them because they feed off your negative energy (loosh). They could also be staying where you are living.

When you go to bed at night, your physical body is sleeping but your etheric body is traveling in the astral plane, in this place your thoughts and feelings are increased, time does not exist. Not every nightmare is a demon attacking you, sometimes it's your own thoughts because you're projecting it to yourself. When you're sleeping you're body is in a vulnerable state and they could try to feed off your fear. (They also like halloween for this reason but that's an other topic)

The one thing these negative entities is scared of is positive loving energy. Not relationship love, universal love, think of your pet, when you give it a hug or pet it. That's the energy.

Anyway my story. I was renting a place and didn't know but there were a lot of negative people around me in this building (smokers). I would do my positive meditations at night and then sleep. I would usually get attacked, I couldn't move but could feel an entity feeding off me. Their goal is to make you scared and feed off your fear (loosh). This is food to them. Kinda like how you like laughing, it's good energy for you.

One night, I was sleeping and felt my body constricted, like almost a snake. I couldn't move or wake up (this is common), I'm being attacked by a negative entity, it doesn't like my positive energy. In the astral dimension there is no time and my ego was totally gone, I felt totally helpless. The negative entity tried to scare me and it said something like, your family doesn't love you. At this point, I knew what to do, I started sending as much positive loving energy as I could. And I swear to god, it worked. The more I sent, the less my body was constricted. I couldn't tell how much time passed, but I kept sending the energy like a beam of light. Eventually, my body was completely freed and I instantly woke up. And from that day forward, I knew that negative entities exist and I have to watch the energy I'm sending out.

One more story. A year later I moved back home. I did my usual meditation and went to bed. I was no longer afraid of these entities but that night I got attacked by an other. This was the most powerful negative entity I've ever faced. The usual happened, I couldn't move or open my eyes. And it started stealing my energy, I knew what to do. But this thing was fighting back. I could feel it's weight on my body. I kept sending my positive energy but it was sending its own back. It was like two light sabers grinding against each other, but the light saber was my entire body. It took everything I had out of me, this thing wouldn't leave. I don't know how much time passed, but eventually I could control my body. But I could feel it trying to suck me back into it's grip. I knew it would keep attacking me. At this point, I put on the most powerful meditation music I could. That gave me enough of a boost to scare it off.

Anyway, the energy you are sending out is important. Send out positive energy and they have no chance against you.

I'll answer any questions. And 100% this is all true.

Hey, this is really cool, thanks so much for sharing your personal experience @yellowek!!!

I actually had sleep paralysis yesterday, the day after I wrote my response to you. It happened just as it has every other time in the past. I tried to sleep because I was extremely tired, and I think I only got six hours of sleep that night. This time, I was awake for a long timeā€”maybe five hoursā€”before I went back to bed.

When I realized I was having sleep paralysis, I opened my eyes. The light coming from the other room was shining on the door, and I saw it flash over and over like a strobe light. I knew this wasn't real, and in that moment, I thought to myself that what I was seeing was due to my sleep paralysis and whatever was happening in my brain or spirit.

Obviously, my perception of reality changes during sleep paralysis, and I can't tell if my brain is playing tricks on me or not. I think, partially, it's my spirit perceiving something different through my eyes when it is not fully connected to my body. The processes of being awake aren't working correctly, so strange and unusual things are perceived while Iā€™m in sleep paralysis.

I didn't see any entities or negative beings. Now that I think of it, I donā€™t usually see or feel any dark presences during sleep paralysis. This is why I believe it's not an attack from another entity or negative spiritual being. For me, sleep paralysis is something I can replicate consistently, and since I rarely feel any dark or negative beings, I believe it has to do with the processes or chemicals in my brain that regulate sleep and wakefulness. Another possibility is that we have a protected home through a special spiritual process that is perhaps unique to our family.

I think it could be different for everyone. Some people may be more perceptive to the spiritual realm than others. I also think the type of sleep paralysis people experience may stem from different causes. Sleep paralysis often feels like not having control of your body or feeling bound by something that wonā€™t let you move. Some people may experience this like lucid dreams, while others experience it while consciousā€”partially awake and partially asleep.

Maybe some people experience sleep paralysis because they are being attacked by negative spiritual entities. Others might experience it due to disruptions in the brain processes that regulate sleep and wakefulness or from a disconnection between the body and spirit. Negative spiritual entities could prevent the spirit from entering the body correctly, causing sleep paralysis. Alternatively, some might experience it due to an imbalance of brain chemicals.

For me, I think this imbalance is related to disrupted REM sleepā€”waking up too early and going back to bed before my body completes its sleep cycles. Something seems to go wrong when I try to return to sleep. There are chemicals that cause paralysis during sleep to prevent you from acting out your dreams. I havenā€™t done research on this, but I suspect the chemicals responsible for this paralysis might not function properly in people who experience sleepwalking or sleep talking. Some people even do crazy strange things while asleep, like injuring family members. I believe this ties back to brain processes or chemicals not functioning as they should...

Sleep paralysis could have different causes for different people and may manifest in various ways. I hope this provides greater perspective on this phenomenon we call sleep paralysis and it is wonderful to have someone else to talk to about this!

I find this quite interesting, thank again to all for sharing.

It reminds me of a family member who had a confrontation with an evil spirit - he knew it was a devil or a satanic angel - as he was going through his conversion to Christ during that time in his life. Shortly thereafter he received a visit from Jesus.

There are many others who have similar experiences wherein tremendous evil or attacks happen prior to marvelous positive manifestations - once we have proven faithful in our lives in one way or another.
