I have found the story The White Doe by Gustavo Adolfo Bequer, a Spanish writer who was a contemporary of Edgar Allan Poe. He wrote short horror stories like Poe, touched on the theme of underground worlds like Poe, and perhaps a bit more directly, and even touched on the theme of underground creatures such as Gnomes, Goblins and reptile beings. All of which is probably why he died so young, just like Poe.
The White Doe:
Scroll down and click on 10 at the very bottom on the right, then scroll down again just a bit to Page 105. The story highlights the theme of shapeshifters that are among us as leaders and prominent personalities.
By the way, this is good literature, people. Don't miss the opportunity to read some Bequer (pronounced "baker")
