Scientists Discover New Site of Potential Instability in West Antarctic Ice Sheet | News

It seems to me that this vulnerable spot is not on, but near the hole. Any opinions? http://www.utexas.edu/news/2012/05/10/ice_sheet/

I noticed that the article mentioned the newly discovered basin "slopes down towards the interior"...I'm sure the author was referring to the interior of the continent... Or was he/she? Haha

Lonni,

It is rather close, in the same region, at least.

Olaf Jansen claims to have sailed out of the Antarctic opening; at least, that is the way the author, Willis George Emerson, presented it. Perhaps in the late 1820s the ice channel from the opening to the oceans of the surface world was open; that basin could be part of it.

It is hard to prove these things.
