First off, I'd like to just let everyone know that I'm still actively reading the list; I've just been too swamped to send anything for a while, although we've had some fascinating discussions that I'd really like to comment on. However, for now I'm going to keep it simple and ask a question which can hopefully be answered easily.
I was talking with a friend recently who is quite open-minded about hollow earth (he might already believe in it). I mentioned The Smoky God to him as part of our discussion and he expressed that he doesn't put a lot of credit into this book. He said he is unable to prove that it is not a work of fiction. Then he asked me the killer question: "Can you show that it is non-fiction?" He posited, if there were indeed such large fruits and immense sights down there, why didn't the Jansens take back a memento like a seed or something?
I was a bit stumped with this and have sat on it for a while now. My initial reason for believing The Smoky God was largely religious, since it agreed with things I believe in and there was nothing to disprove it from a scientific point of view. I also vaguely remember reading scientific things which seemed to support the possibility of The Smoky God being a true story. For instance, I think I read stuff about frozen plants and large animal carcasses way up north and other things. But since The Smoky God already fit with me so well, I didn't keep good track of these sources and now I'm unsure how to respond to this friend.
Does anyone here have any good, solid proof or strong evidence that supports The Smoky God as being a plausibly true story?
