LEGAZPI CITY--Expect more explosive eruptions after Mayon Volcano blew its
top on Sunday.
"A possibility of another explosion is present," Raymundo Punongbayan,
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology director, yesterday saidhere.
The eruptions forced 32,000 people to leave their homes and to move into 16evacuation centers in the province, prompting the provincial government
yesterday to declare a state of calamity in Albay.
The main eruption cloud discharged from the crater two days ago rose to about10kilometers high.
Southeast monsoon winds dispersed ash mainly to the northeast in the vicinityy of Malilipot.
Because of the eruptions, Philippine Airlines suspended its flights between Manila and Legazpi City from June 26 to July 1.
Phivolcs said Mayon's latest eruption could last from one to two weeks.
"Mayon has no history of erupting only for a day. The probability is high
that there will be more eruptions," resident volcanologist Ed Laguerta said.
"There are factors . . . that could lead to even stronger explosions," he said. "It's not yet time to go back. The danger is not over."
- Peru rocks and rolls
The coast of Peru in the same area as the 8.1 continues to shake with at least a 5.0 plus quake about twice a day. Bet your bippies this is big time action. This area of Peru is almost due west of the Lake Titicaca area. If you remember your Graham Hancock, this famous Lake area includes the ancient seaport which is now about 8,000 feet in elevation. That is apparantly how much the land can uplift during a pole shift.
- Eastern Washington??? Nahhh, you gotta be kidding

Mild quakes rattle Spokane
June 25, 2001
SPOKANE WA A rare series of earthquakes jolted this Eastern Washington city early Monday, breaking some dishes but causing no serious damage or injuries. "It felt like I was flying in the air," Patten said. "It was not a very good thing to wake up to." That quake had a magnitude of 3.4 and was centered about 2 miles southwest of Spokane, said Waverly Person with the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo. A second quake with a magnitude of 2.8 was reported about 6 miles northwest of the city at about 8:01 a.m. A third smaller quake with a magnitude of about 2.0 was felt about 10 minutes later, Person said. A series of aftershocks continued to shake the ground throughout the day. Damage was limited to broken windows and dishes, some toppled brick chimneys and cracks in plaster walls.
The Pacific Northwest Seismographic Network at the University of Washington reported the initial quake occurred about 3.1 miles below the surface. The second was about 7.3 miles deep. There were no reports of major damage. Some area residents heard a boom and felt several sharp jolts, and workers in some high-rise office buildings were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.
Earthquakes are rare in Eastern Washington, which lies above thick sheets of volcanic basalt. As a result, there are relatively few seismic measuring devices in the region, said Ruth Ludwin, a UW research scientist and seismologist.
The UW initially reported the first quake's magnitude at 3.9, then revised that to 3.7. John Minsch, a USGS geophysicist at the national earthquake center at Golden, Colo., said it is not unusual for different observers to come up with different figures because of differences in formulas used for computing magnitudes. Lani LaRock of Spokane, a recent Gonzaga University graduate from Butte, Mont., said the quake "felt like it lifted the whole building and set it down."
"It felt like a 3.9 earthquake," said Henjum, who lives in Alaska and says she can "feel the tiniest ones."
- The Netherlands
Saturday 23 june, little eartquakes (3) in the South_ Netherlands, force 3,9 Richter. Little, but very unusual for our land. Expectation is more to be followed.
