People,
They walk among us, they even take birth among us. This is different than just being possessed, but they do that, too.
Shades of the Vril Society.

List Members,
I have been reeading the unabridged version of The Mahabharat, a work of literature which contains The Bhagavad Gita.
I have come across two issues reagarding Rakshashas that might be of interest. While exiled in the |himalayan area, Arjuna became separated from his brothers, wife and and company, And separately, his brother Bhima became separated. The group was informed of Bhima's location and, as the group took off to go fetch him, his brother Yudhishtira addressed two rakshashas that had decided to help them by saying: "... and you [all] who roam the nights ... ." This confirms that they are not exactly day creatures. Remember that the Mothman was encountered at night.
And there was another rakshasha in the group who had taken human form as a shapeshifter. He took the form of a brahmin priest and recited prayers among them and cooked. When Bhima had gone off on his foray, which wasn't a far distance, the rakshasha stole their weapons, revealeed his form and took the remainders prisoners. He abducted them and went off with them, but Arjuna's other brother, Sahadev, escaped and went to where Bhima was. Bhima was the som of the God of the Winds and, once informed, arrived at where his abducted family was, and killed the rakshasha.
What we can drive from this short episode is that Rashasha shapeshifters can remain amongst humans for a period of at least an extended amount of days without losing their shapeshifted forms.

@deandddd , all such beings described in the Hindu epics were called "Maayaavi" , or capable of creating powerful illusions , which could fool almost anyone !
Regards
Sidhartha,
All the Puranic literature describes that the underworlders from within the crust create illusions. And where does that leave us? When we strayed from Vedic culture, we became easy prey.
I was just reading in Mahabharat about a conversation between the sage Aristishena and Yudhishthira concerning the Gamhamadhana Mountain and any ideas of ascension to its peak. Aristishena commented: "If one is fickle enough to continue on the journey beyond this point, the rakshashas kill him with iron spears and other means".
I was surprised because, according to most of the folklore, underground creature are sensitive towards iron, it even seems to sap their electricity, the energy from their bodies.* I think that rakshashas are exempt.
Sidhartha,
I was reading that rakshashas have pointed ears, too. But I think that this must be already known.
Cheers!
Yes @deandddd , Hindu texts are replete with descriptions of a variety of semi-human and humanoid species , living alongside humans . I guess , most of those sub-species went extinct over time , or some of them may still be hiding in very remote places or even in the cavern worlds below...hmm !
Regards
I imagen these strange Egyptian creatures, such as humans with wolf heads, are living in cavern worlds. They know that sunlight diminishes stature, brain function (no more photographic memory), and duration of life.
They are obviously close cousins to the kimpurushas and kinnaras described in the Itihasic literature from India.
There is so much illumination and information in the literature from India because they wrote things down. But what archaeologist guides him or herself by such literature? Few if any. Modern archaeologists and anthropologists should be cultural leaders of society but, instead of that, they carry on like a pack of inbred bastards. Intellectually inbred, that is.
Cheers!
