I'm relatively certain that we (the USA) have ordinance that greatly
surpasses the penetration power and destructive force of these
much-touted "bunker busters." I know this from a variety of
sources, one being an anonymous friend with contacts in the
industry which creates these types of devices, another being
other information that I saw on a daily basis, a few years and
jobs ago--this latter information concerning "kinetic weapons" of
enormous destructive force, which can penetrate to depths of
literally THOUSANDS of feet. I've even seen computer
simulations and animations of these things ("theoretical" of
course) in action, and if they now exist, and are used, I daresay
that the relevance to any alleged "cavern worlds" in the
Afghanistan region would be quite real.
One of these "kinetic weapons" was essentially a gigantic
titanium-tipped missile, WITHOUT explosive TNT ordinance,
which contains a depleted uranium shell (EXTREMELY heavy).
This device would be dropped on a target from a NEAR ORBIT
altitude, satellite-guided. The penetration power is immense,
and the sheer KINETIC energy released is well into the megaton
range of measurements.
Do you really think that the most powerful and effective weapons
we have are going to be made public knowledge? Of course not.
And by the way, Saddam's bunkers--particularly those around the
ancient site of Babylon and the nuclear research facilities--were
DESTROYED by those "bunker busters." The other thing I
mentioned above did not exist then (and still may not exist, as far
as I know).
So this thread is indeed relevant, albeit non-political.
" The OTV's orbital unpredictability and speed are its greatest
assets. Internal defense on the station is a requirement. More
powerful lasers, kinetic weapons, and particle beams give
extended standoff for force application roles. The OTV also is
capable of nonlethal satellite blinding and deception."
I'm actually amazed that I was able to find this much.
This is the future of warfare, and it is potentially able to penetrate
quite deeply into the Earth.
Additonally, I recall that the "kinetic energy release" in the
"theoretical" model that I saw was generated by the impact of a
titanium rod which ran the entire length of the missile, which was
a one-piece construction with the outer shell of the nose. The
interior of the nose-cone was an explosive substance of great
weight and density.
Thanks Mike, for justifying the HE relevance of your prior comments. - Dick

Well,
This answered one of my questions.
And think about this- what if they attach a warhead of adifferentvariety,
such as a nuke, anddon't tell us? After all, who would see the blast? Would
CNN report all about the blast? Not!

Dean,
I believe that some of the ordinance which is being used, and
which we are being told about, have warheads made of depleted
uranium ("depleted uranium shells"). This material, in spite of
the word "depleted," is still pretty radioactive.
Of course, veins of uranium and other materials, which are
probably just as radioactive, run throughout the earth beneath
our feet, so it's all relative in this instance. While radioactive and
capable of affecting living tissues, I think that the fragments of
such a shell will not degrade further and contaminate the
environment in the manner of say, a nuclear spill or detonation.
Eventually, uranium as a metal just turns into lead.....over
thousands of years.
