If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any
person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the
free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the
Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised
the same; or
If two or more persons go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of
another, with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any
right or privilege so secured—
They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or
both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section
or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual

"The Incredible Cities of Inner Earth" by David H. Lewis illustrates an actual
expedition made into a cavern world traveling more than 60 miles from a cave
opening in Connecticut. The privately funded expedition took place in April-May
1979. Amongst other things, the team of eleven reported reaching an
agricultural field (70miles long x 2000 feet wide - 500 feet tall) tended
by sophisticated machines and the cavern walls covered with metal plates. Prior
to reaching this agriculture field, the expedition also encountered the
phenomenon of the cave passageway gradually becoming lit with light of brownish
tint.
The following is an excerpt from pg. 194 of the book:
[ The lighting that illuminated the entire cavern was a strange factor in
itself, for the color took on a brownish tint, and not the brilliance as shown
in the agriculture section. Although this brownish tint was difficult to adjust
the eyes to, it was quite soothing. The longer one was exposed to its
reflection, the more details he could see without the normal eye strain of white
or blue light. To say there were light fixtures would be a false statement. If
this lighting effect created a mystery, then it will be one that will always
remain unsolved. To describe this illumination, one would be convinced that it
was a well hidden form of indirect lighting, yet no illumination appeared from
behind any particular complex nor did it descent from any area of the ceiling.
The light was just there and came from all directions and yet not from any
specific direction or particular spot at the floor level, from the walls or an
area near the ceiling. It was a total illumination as would be our sun of the
surface. ]
