Namaskars Dharmaji and all,
this mention I've found in Mahabharata, abridged version by Krishna
Dharma, Torchlight Publ. 1999, ch. 16, p. 164:
(Krishna said to Yudhisthira:)
"You are fit in every way to perform the Rajasuya sacrifice and
become the world emperor, but you will first have to overthrow the
powerful Jarasandha, who has formed a near invincible alliance with
numerous other monarchs. He has extended his influence and control
throughout the middle portion of the earth and designs on the rest.
He is the biggest stumling block to your plans."
I have read the exposition of Bhakti Ananda Gosvami at Vedic Culture
list. It makes more sense to me that Jarasandha ruled not over the HE
but over the Mediterranean region.
Jan
janJM,
I don't see why jarasandha couldn't have extended his influence overthe
hollow portion.
Why do you feel that this comment regers to the Mediterranean?

Because the underworld/Shambhalla/Agharta is usually described as
an abode of rishis like Devapi/Maru and not so easily to be entered.
Also the extension of Vedic rule of Maharaja Yudhisthira (who ruled
also over Jarasandha's country with Jarasandha's son as an executive
ruler) described in the Bhagavatam 1 refers to just surface countries.
B.A. Gosvami's explanation makes sense to me. But who knows for
sure?
Jan
Yes, but the Sons of Sagara entered, didn´t they? And look what was
happening on the surface right in the presence of the Krishna
incarnation, i.e., King Kamsa and his atrocities. Free will is not
usually interfered with.
countries.
Yes, but Mahabharat only says that Jarasandha had " alliances " with
the hollow Earth kings, not that his kingdom was there.
This is for sure. We can to consider all possibilities.
