Since the aurorae eminate from the polar orifices, why won't one just
follow the light trail to the source? Aurorae are shot in linear forms
and and divert (spread) in ripples. I think it's caused by Earth's
speedy rotation. Follow the converging side of the rays. One will find
the light presence coming lower and lower in altitude until his
surrounding becomes bright like daylight.

You have a very credible idea, to tell the truth, and the aurora is constant at the higher latitiudes.
Of course, our current problem is that the opening is in the middle, so to speak, of an Arctic wasteland, probably a thousand miles from any airport, even a military airport, excepting for maybe one Eskimo reservation airstrip in Ellesmere somewhere, which might be a bit closer; I said "might."
And, of course, the area is patrolled by aircraft, monitored by satellite, et cetera. You already know these things, of course. I'm just being dramatic for newbies.
But that is a good idea.
