MaTa,
Yes, I found the part that you refer to below: " Except that I
couldn't look at their faces, my eyes slid away, the faces were just
blurs. "
These people encountered seem to be refered to as faceless, as The
Guide in Etidorhpa. Could be.
That area around the Little Bighorn has caught my interest in the
past. During Custer´s time, one of those tribes was living in a huge
valley accessed only by a sheer drop, all around, and they have a
legend of being forced out of the underground by some type of beings.
We have so little to go on, all we get are some snippets.
What is the name of that other tribe in that area> I have a book
which tells the story, even the name of the valley, but it isn´t here
with me at the moment.
Dharma/Dean
Dean,
Was it the Paiutes? The story that Hazel gave a few days back about
Death valley?
I hope I am not boring all of you on what I find and post, I am new to
much of this. I just figure that perhaps there are others that might
enjoy the snippets that I find too.
Dean, the site on the Lakota also has an interesting map that mentions
an underground entrance (ruined by a park).

Here is the initial description of the Guide from the cavern world in
Etidorhpa:
" The speaker stood in a stooping position, with his face towards
the earth as if to shelter it from the sunshine. He was less than
five feet in height. His arms and legs were bare, and his skin, the
color of light blue putty, glistened in the sunlight like the slimy
hide of a water dog. He raised his head, and I shuddered in affright
as I beheld that his face was not that of a human. His forehead
extended in an unbroken plane from crown to cheek bone, and the
chubby tip of an abortive nose without nostrils formed a short
projection near the center of the level ridge which represented a
countenance. There was no semblance of an eye, for there were no
sockets. Yet his voice was singularly perfect. His face, if face it
could be called, was wet, and water dripped from all parts of his
slippery person. Yet, repulsive as he looked, I shuddered more at the
remembrance of the touch of that cold, clammy hand than at the sight
of his figure, for a dead man could not have chilled me as he had
done, with his sappy skin, from which the moisture seemed to ooze as
from the hide of a water lizard.
Turning to my guide, this freak of nature said, softly:
´ I have come in obedience to the signal.´"
The drawing which depicts this scene, as well as The Guide, is at the
home page of my Etidorhpa site:

Yes Dean!
This is what I thought of when I read about the blurred faces and why
I posted it.

MaTa
Ma Ta,
No, it wasn't thePaiutes, it was a Dakota tribe. I'll get the book this
weekend and let you know.

Hi MaTa,
I enjoyed reading this article. The mysterious couple were intriguing and it reminded me of a time I went river boating in Idaho, not too far east of Washington, but down in a deep valley. 6 of us went together, traveling the Snake River into a Gorge area, which was on Native American Land.
The area is fairly isolated, we were the only people there that week. All in and around the Gorge was mountains, which could only be accessed by boat--so many little mountain islands. The land was full of arrowheads, cool rocks, and a few native tools here and there, even some precious stones and bits of pottery. The treasure that I found, and kept, was a rock which had been cut in half and on the inside was painted a door within a door, first door was blue, with a smaller red door inside it--& it was painted on both pieces. It was strange because the rock did not appear to be split when I first reached for it, but it opened in my hands. I was so excited. The first thing that came to mind when the rock opened with its painting was, "I wonder if this place is a door into another world, or even two worlds. I kept the rock for a long time and then eventually gave it to an old friend.
We spent a week there, and I chose to sleep on the boat instead of the land, I like water. Every night about 10 PM I could hear singing, it was like ancient voices were coming from under the water. That is when my friend decided I was "a bit more eccentric for even him" because I told him--there are people beneath this Gorge, I can hear them!
Beautiful songs but not in my language. The first night I think I did not sleep at all, it was so lovely, and surprising. One other person also heard it, and I think the dogs did too because of the way they perked up to take a look a round.
I had forgotten about it until you posted this, and now I am going to have to call an old friend and ask him just exactly where we were. May be a place similar to your post, I can recall thinking it was very sacred land and beautiful place, and so peaceful. A completely different energy there.
Thanks for the story! Leslee

***Ma Ta,
I just finished looking at the earth map.
I was drawn to # 6 on the map:
Hinhan Kaga Paha Ghost (Owl) Butte
Spirits of dead start path on Milky Way.
I bet if one were to sit there and meditate they would hear some stories told by the ancestors of that land. Maybe a secret of two?

Hi Lesley,
Thank you for telling me this story. I am forever picking up rocks and
you found a true treasure! My best friend had a similar experience
while looking at property in NC.. something caught her eye and it was
a rock. Heart shaped and you can see very distinct faces in it,
ancient ones, for months it went everywhere with her, she even slept
with it. No accidents, there are reasons we find such things.
Lucky you to have heard the voices, and yeah, I understand being
"eccentric" too :-). Makes life quite interesting indeed!
Thanks again and I hope you can go back to that place again!
