For example: in the late 70s, a Soviet automatic device delivered 124 grams of lunar soil from the Moon. After the analysis, scientists stated that the soil from the Moon is identical to the soil from the Kola well at a depth of 3 kilometers. Why did you decide to drill in such a "wilderness"?
As far as we know from the study of geography, our planet consists of layers - the crust, mantle and core. But no one knew for sure where these layers begin and where they end, so we decided to drill in those places where the crust is least thick.
First, we chose the bottom of the Caspian Sea, because it is it that is closest to the mantle. But since drilling under water is still difficult to implement, they chose the Kola Peninsula, because it is he who is located on the Baltic shield, which consists of the most ancient rocks, known to mankind.
