Gary,
It looks like an area that has been blackened out on purpuse because, at one point, it looks to be square.
The black area looks like the Pole even though it's being spun around; so they are covering the opening, of course.

it is not hard these days to believe the poles are open, there is too much evidence
and some sci-fi story have much truth to them than people can imagine.
Its really no big deal, when one thinks of them, the poles are open and there
is some kind of life in them, where is the problem? All parts of earth is busy
giving life and its inside is giving life, we cannot see what kind of life, but its
life given by a living and breathing planet.
