Go to the Hollow Planet Blogspot and click on Earth's Geo Corona.
It has been there for God knows how long, and it is probably one of the the most significant images we have seen. I am going to work on getting its origin.
The Sun's rays seem to be striking from edge on, it you eyeball the contour of the planet from top down.
And you can see that the outer rim starts from way outside This corresponds to the experience of Arctic explorers who have noticed foreshortening of the horizon starting from just above the Ellesmere Island/Baffin Bay region. (Click on thecurvature anomalies link below) In other words, the point of reported curvature anomalies corresponds to the rim in the image)
Although the inwards slope seems to be gradual, the shadow is cast across more than half of the crater floor (It's not a crater, but what else can I call it?).
Therefore, we do not see into the hollow world.
And another implication is that when a person is at a point on the gradual inward slope such that the Polestar seems to be above the person's head, the neck of the opening is still far away exactly because the inward slope is gradual.
