Many of you may have already watched this interview. I think it is interesting to hear Admiral Byrd describe the differences between the North and South Poles. He indicated that there would be a global race by wold powers for the resources in Antarctica. Seems to me the US avoided competition by making your competitors believe there is nothing but ice at the poles.
Furthermore, it is very interesting that Admiral Byrd's most important trait is loyalty. His comment on the importance of loyalty leads me to believe that Admiral Byrd would be willing to keep secrets of whatever he discovered at the poles in order to stay loyal to the US government and loyal to whoever funded his expeditions.
