At the top of the first photograph, the explanartion states: "Track system terminates in rough depression that may contain buildings."

The track system terminates in the rough depression, yes, but it specifically terminates as it runs into what seems to be a flat surface, having a white shine of reflected sunlight, and then runs immediately into a black hole which, of course, is a cave or tunnel.

I can only speculate that there must be cavern worlds below, subterranean cities or some such.
