Underground Creatures in Astrological Literature

People,

I have always thought that the glyphs on the ancient Egyptian structures are indicative o0f the creatures that live in the depths below The Sphinx and pyramids. The Egyptian Book of the Dead tells of such places, and describes what can only be called "creatures". The one I always think about is the human being with the head of a wolf, or a fox.

Believe it or not, such creatures are described in the Hindu astrological literature, in the descriptions of Drekkanas or "decans" as we say in English. A decan is 1/3 of a zodiacal sign, and since there are 30* to a sign, there are 3 decans per sign.

According to the Vedic astrological literature, decans are employed in describing the source and nature of death. This is yet another correlation with the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

Here is one description from the second decan of Aries: "The second decan of Aries is sketched by Yavana as represents a woman with a red cloth, fond of ornaments and food, pot-bellied, horse's face, thirsty and single footed".

Another one: "The second decan of Taurus is represented by a man possessing knowledge of lands, grains, houses, cows, arts, ploughing and carts, hungry, sheep-faced, dirty clothes, and shoulders like the humpof a fox".

And another: "The third decan of Taurus is represented by a man with a body like that of an elephant, white teeth, legs like that of a sarabha, yellowish color, and clever in capturing sheep and deer."

In his notes to this stanza, Bangalore Suryanarian Rao states that: "Sarabha is an animal at which a lion is supposed to get frightened. It has eight legs of great size and strength. ... This is a masculine, qudruped decan ruled by Saturn. [Sarabha is a Sanskrit compound word which means] that which kills a lion. Referring to the Mahabharata, we find sarabha thusly described":

"... means that it has eight legs, eyes in the top and lives in the forest. Probably this species is now extinct or may be found in forests yet to be discovered."

Or perhaps it can be found in underground worlds. If there are vast tracts of land underneath, and if there are mushroom forests, then maybe there are species that are currently unknown to us. Also, species that have disappeared from the face of the Earth may be replenished one day from populations below.

The Mahabharata is the book from which the Bhagavat Gita is derived.

And yet another: "The second decant of Gemini represents a man living in a garden, in armor, with a bow, warlike, armed with weapons, face like that of Garuda, and fond of play, children, ornamentation and wealth."

Garuda is the feathered carrier of Vishnu, a giant bird. His face is a bird's face with a beak.

Therefore, it is directly understood that the face of the man being described is a bird's face.

There are a lot of these, and even some decan descriptions from other book, such as Mahadev's Jataka Tattva. So I can't do them all at once, but I will copy some more every two or three days.

Cheers!

Quite fascinating , @deandddd - thanks for sharing !

Sidhartha,

You know, the man with a face like Garuda has a close counterpart in the Egyptian underword denizen Throth.

Cheers!

The description of the first decan/drekkana of Cancer represents "A man holding vegetables, flowers and fruits, elephant-bodied, pig-faced and horse-necked. Ruler - The Moon, masculine, quadruped".

Good Lord ... pig faced! A while back we were discussing how it is that pigs have so much in the way of human genetics. Well, if human-animal hybrids were known about in Egyptian times, then it shouldn't surprise us that they were known in Vedic times, too. In ancient times, there was much in the way of relations among South India, Ethiopia and Egypt.

And underground worlds were spoken of in the literature of these cultures, too.

There are 36 drekkanas, and 23 of them are evil. and this one, the first drekkana/decan of Cancer, is one of them!

I think that these hybrid creatures are from the hellish realms below!

The Egyptians really knew how to "raise Hell".

Cheers???
