We've discussed the idea of the surface world being manipulated by underground communities, how about this one?

Varaha Purana, as quoted by Kedaranath Dutt in his book " Jaiva Dharma:"
Raksasah kalim ashritya
Jayante brahma-yonishu
" In the Kali-yuga demons take birth in the families of brahmins."
This idea of beings from other realms taking birth on Earth with agendas is not unheard of. In the tenth canto of Shrimad Bhagavatam, Shree Vishnu instructed the demigods to take birth ahead of the Krishna avatar in order to assist Him in His pastimes. The other way around, however, it seems that asuras ( demons ), too, either take birth as residents of India or that they express their influence through earthly beings.
This reminds me of an accident I heard from a colleague Vaishnava few
years ago.
It supposedly happened in Mayapur, West Bengal. One of the young boys
there became possessed by some powerful demoniac entity and no one could
help him. Vaishnavas called one of our swamis and when the boy saw him
he (or rather the entity within his body) jumped over the room to attack
him, scratching his face
before few people could down him with all their power. The demon said he
comes from underworld lokas and they control practically everything on
the surface but
the preaching of Krishna-bhakti (Vaishnava dharma) goes against their
plans.
Don't remember what happened then - if the boy recovered or not. I
haven't investigated if the story is true or not.
