The Otherworld...Paradise

Glacier
When the Tuatha De Danann, were dispossesed of upper-earth and some sought refuge in a paradise over-seas, situate in some unknown, and, except for favoured mortals, unknowable island of the west,

“….island-valley of Avilion;

Where falls not hail, or rain, or any snow,

Nor ever wind blows loudly; but it lies

Deep-meadow’d happy, fair with orchard-lawns

And bowery hollows crown’d with summer sea.”

A land of perpetual pleasure and feasting, with a variety of names;

Land of Promise (Tir-Tairngire)

Plain of Happiness (Mag Mell)

Land of the Living (Tir-nam-beo)

Land of the Young (Tir-nan-og)

Breasil’s Island (Hy-Breasil)

Spanish pioneers of the sea who sought this land, upon discovering South America, named the land they found, Brazil. Many names for rivers, mountains and cities in the ‘otherworld’ probably lend their names to surface-world features. Even Holland is called, The Netherlands. Hazel.
