About the moon-eyed people, remember that The Guide in the book Etidorhpa also had trouble bearing the rays of The Sun.

And this is typical of the non human, underground dwellers, as depicted in the literature.

The avoidance of light by the Green Children of Wolfpitte was a temporary condition.
