You might know that I've been reading Secret Cities of Old South America by Harold T. Wilkins. Quite a claim was made about pygmies who lied in wait in order to hunt mastodons "which came out of the ground". This claim appears on Page 279 of the book: "On the evidence given in a collection of Indian tales by Miss A. E. Smith, it would seem that a race of pygmies hunted these giant mammals. We hear that a sick indian warrior, left by a salt lick beyond the Alleghany Mountains saw three pygmies come and lie in ambush for these great animals "which came out of the ground." So whether it be in relation to cavern worlds below the surface, or in The Arctic region, there has been evidence of mastodons relating them to underground environments, this is the point.
