Maori Legend About Underworld

The Maori (native New Zealanders) have an important legend/oral history that is of significance to our group. A chieftain from some time ago married a woman from an underground cavern world and even visited this world through a downward tunnel. This subterranean world is called Rarohenga and its people call themselves Turehu. Enjoy:

I am Polynesian myself (Tongan). My Dad and one of my brothers speak fluent Tongan, and in one of the children's legends they used to tell me, the Tongans have a story of the underworld too. The details are hazy though, and so one day I asked them to tell it to me but they looked at me weird for wanting to know. The basic gist of it, is the Tongans got the secret of making fire from a son who was sired by an underworld man, who followed him below, and learned to make fire by secretly watching him. Anyway, Thanks for the post, Semisi

Hi Maka,
There is more truth in these Legends, than is to be found in our so called 'history' books.

It would be lovely if the Polynesian particularly Maori, that is growing up in our NZ cities, could ditch
the ways of Now, and return to the ways of the Tureh.

It is a pity that Credo Matwa is so old, as if he was to visit NZ, or any other indigieous people the
world over, any elder, let alone any younger person, were to be in his presence, who is aware of the
existence of Energy, which surrounds everything, then the 'surface' peoples of today, would come to
know and embrace True Love that is Heart based.

He is fully aware of the many types of species that inhabit the subterranean worlds.
He is one of two remaining Shamans from the continent of South Africa.

Bre.
I am from Wellington, NZ, 04 4774947.
