The way that the Russians had depicted the magnetic lines offorce really
makes me think that the opening is oval shaped, not an exact circle. See the
mag lines attachement.
The end of the line over on the Russian side by Nova Zemlya is the area
where Nansen had his experiences, and the other side near Elizabeth Island
in Canada ( Go Queenie Go! ) is simply the other end. It is not too far from
where MacMillan's sighting of land would indicate it to be. See the second
attachement for my map with the green oval.
The drawing from Etidorhpa also shows an oblong-type opening; see the thrid
attachment.

This piece from the NY Times, which you quoted in the article which you mention below, corresponds well to the magnetic lines drawing which the Russians provided ( Attached ):

Hi Dennis,
Informative site! I just finished reading the page you listed below. Your information is easily read, and so clearly spelled out, I especially liked the "Ringing Bells"--must be hollow to do that. That is an excellent portrayal of why the Moon is hollow--I think everyone will be able to imagine the ringing. I have bookmarked and will go back later to read your whole site.

Similarly the sorcerer Merlin, himself said to be the half-human result of the union of an underworld being and a mortal woman, covered Uther Pendragon with the likeness of his enemy Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall, so that he might impregnate his rival's wife Ygraine and produce the child which would become Arthur, the mythical king of Britain. Uther wanted pleasure; Merlin had an agenda of his own. It's meaningful that Merlin's father was said to have been an incubus, or a demon/underworld entity capable of having intercourse with human women and impregnating them. Merlin had to bring together the desired genetic partners, and this seems to have been simply underworld manipulation of human history and politics as usual, as far as subterranean interference in human affairs go.
The fact that Uther and Arthur's standard was a crimson dragon is more meaningful than might at first seem apparent, as shall be seen. Further examination of Arthurian legend, based as it is on much older Celtic myth and archetypes, seems to indicate that it may in fact be a thinly-veiled fable concerning two warring supernatural or underworld forces, one more inimical than the other, vying for control or breeding-rights of the localized human gene-pool. This battle for dominance is perhaps symbolized by the warring dragons, one red and one white, and the manipulation of Merlin's emotions and lust by Nimue, the Lady of the Lake. Nimue is synonymous with the cavern-dwelling Hindu Naga-folk, who dwell in palaces beneath the floors of deep lakes and oceans, and she is also very similar to the daughter of the Japanese Dragon-King, who falls in love with a human trespasser and removes herself from her undersea cavern-palace, long enough to leave a hybrid child--and perhaps political influence--in the surface world.
