Famous Christian Scientists</A>

oh oh, this link says Henson WAS a CS Sunday School Teacher in his twenties,
but gave up the faith. (scroll down past his first mention to the next to the
last mention between Richard Bach and Spalding Gray.

and here is a guy who was a Sunday School Student of Henson's:

I'll just cut and paste the relevant part:

<<Clearly, life for David Unger Hart is not easy, battling the unforgiving
singles scene, the cold shoulder of the Mother Church, the puppets whose
heads have exploded. But the man is on a mission. He claims that the late
Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, no less, was once his Sunday School
teacher many years ago outside of Washington, D.C., where Hart spent some of
his formative years. He says that Henson encouraged him, and even gave him
some puppets, stipulating that he use them to teach the kids about the
glories of Christian Science.

Surely this can't be true.
I speak with Mike Bourne, public relations man for the Mother Church herself.
"Henson actually was a member of the Christian Science Church growing up, but
later he withdrew," he states. So he was never a Sunday School teacher?
"No. Now, wait a minute. I think he was a Sunday School teacher around
College Park, Maryland. In his early 20s..."

From here, things get curiouser and curiouser; Hart says that the Henson
connection has continued from beyond the grave.

"I was doing a party at the Music Center; some people hired me to do a
birthday party. A weird situation happened. I felt the presence with me; I
didn't see [Henson] in the physical form, but the kids started screaming,
'Wagner the Giraffe is moving in the air!' He was moving up and down, moving
up and down, and then he fell to the ground. And I felt the presence there
with me, and then he whispers in my ear, 'Why don't you do my favorite songs
from Sesame Street---"Rubber Ducky," "If I'd Known You Were Coming I'd Have
Baked a Cake," and "I Love Trash." ?' So I did.>>

And here is a an interesting article about Henson's last days.

<<By 2 A.M. Henson was having difficulty breathing and had been coughing up
blood, though Jane didn't know for how long. "I remember saying, 'Can we go
to the hospital? Can we call a nurse, a doctor?' " she says. "But he said,
'just rub my back. Try to calm down my breathing.' At one point, he said,
'Maybe I'm dying.' He did say that. But, you know, whenever you're sick,
you say, 'God, I feel like I'm going to die.' "
Still, he did not leave for a hospital. Part of the reason, says Jane, was
his Christian Science upbringing. While he didn't practice the faith, "it
affects his general thinking," says Jane.2 A.M. Henson was having difficulty
