This is the best "Top of The World" map I've ever see. Click on the map to
maximize it ... note the land mass in the center of the pole. That is not
just decoration drawn in by a mapmaker to fill space... Note the rugged
coast line, just as with the known world. This is a "political" map with
each "country" drawn in a different color. Note the land mass we care about.
At least 3 different political colors. Like I said ... this is the best map
of the top of the world I've ever seen. Any comments?

I have to agree with you Dennis. This map is incredible. Everyone should click on a take a peek.

Well, the map seems to depict the inward-slopingportion as flat. This, of course, is so that we can see it.
The accompanying article, finding the Poles, says: " At the magnetic poles a compass needle will point straight down, since the lines of force at that point are perpendicular to the surface. "
this means that the magnetic poles are on the rim of the opening. That the magnetic polesslide around doesn't change things, the openinghas a widediameter. The Earth wobbles on its axis, so the location of the magnetic poles slides in relation to the wobble.
