Oblique view of North America
Apollo 16 hand-held Hasselblad photograph of North America on Earth. This northeasterly looking view was taken on 16 April 1972 shortly after translunar injection. Mexico and the Baja peninsula can be seen at lower center. Above that much of the Rocky Mountains are visible. Lake Michigan and Lake Superior can be identified towards the top, parts of Central America at lower right and the Bahama Banks at upper right. For scale, the Baja peninsula is about 1200 km long.
