Challenge in the South

Leslee has recently accepted a challenge from Mike Mott to visit (via
astral body) the Bell Witch cavern in Adams, TN.

Purportedly there is an entity there, a guardian to the caverns below.
What this guardian may be protecting, for now, is anybody's guess.

If you wish to follow this modern day ghost hunt, and play detective
as Leslee unravels clues to this very old ghost story with a very deep
history (Andrew Jackson went against it), you may want to get a jump
by visiting these web sites:

The haunting first began while John was hunting on the north section
of
his land. He noticed something that looked like a wild, stray dog, but
not like any canine he had ever seen before. Bell took aim and fired.
When the smoke cleared away the dog had disappeared. About the same time,
his daughter Betsy and son Drewry were walking through
the family orchard when they noticed a strange woman suddenly walking
beside them. When Betsy turned to speak to her, the woman disappeared
into thin air.

The legend of the "Bell Witch" is not a story made up over many
generations, nor is it a fictitious plot to make a movie with - the legend
of the "Bell Witch" is an historically-proven reality that has
terrified and baffled humankind for almost two centuries. There was
something very wrong on the Bell farm and in rural Robertson County during
the early-1800s, and many believe there is still something wrong there.
Read this 120-page book and decide for yourself. Pleasant dreams.

The cave can only be toured for about 500 feet although explorers have
told the Kirby's (who own the cave) that it actually travels back distances
of up to 15 miles. It is known as one of the most haunted sites in the
Midwest and our investigative team was one of the only one to ever be
allowed into the cave at night.

The Bell Witch Cave can be reached by exiting Interstate 24 near Clarksville,
Tennessee and following Highway 76 to Adams, Tennessee. The cave can
be found by turning right after the small Amoco station and taking Eden
Road until you see the sign for the cave.

In the summer of 1821, the ghost announced that it was leaving but would
return in seven years and it appears the ghost held to its word. In 1828,
the ghost returned to visit John Bell Jr. in his home and had a long
discussion where it made a number of prophesies about world events that
later proved true - including the Civil War and World Wars I and II.
The ghost then said it would leave for one hundred and seven years. It
also promised that when it returned it would not torment decedents of
the Bell family. Many believe the ghost once again kept its word, returning
to haunt the Bell Witch Cave instead of the Bell family.
