The devotee/scholar Satyraj (Steven Rosen) wrote a book called "Ohm Shalom."
In it he describes of how there are two huge birds of unknown species at a
certain time, only once every year fly to a certain mountain land then they
fly back from whence they came. I'm not sure of the cycle, but I can find out
if you want. I no longer have his book. I think he describes the scriptures
that mention these birds, also.
