East is pretty crowded. I can't stand the continual noise and car exhaust.
Wears me out.
When my wife's aunt died we went to New York (Long Island) for the funeral.
Went to a nice restaurant by the water.
Good food and all that, but when I asked the waitress for a double I
realized I needed to pay attention to my feelings. How do you stand the
stress? And if you make eye contact people get real goosey. I think they
anticipate unpleasantness.
Frankly, I don't know why you don't move away from the pollution.
If you die of cancer what good is your retirement and investments?
We have pollution too. But if you rent at first and get into a few
conversations you'll find out where those places are.
I was always amazed at how it was OK to burn coal upwind of you folks and
send the electricity to you when you had such strict laws locally. The
losses in all those miles of wire meant even more coal had to be burned.
The Rockefeller refinery in Billings makes a lot of pollution but the EPA
monitoring station is on the west side of the plant. If weather moves in and
you get an East wind they shut the monitor down. Refinery employees do the
monitoring (real impartial group, right?). A small oil co. In Laurel just
west of that Standard facility has its monitors mounted on the stacks at the
plant. Not much dilution there, or the benefits of measuring upwind.
Corruption is an interesting thing.

PS-- As for Boone & Crocket(back when ships were made of wood and men were
made of iron)-- John Johnson was a real western mountain man. They made a
fictional account of him, named it "Jeremiah Johnson." Some of it was true
though, like his one man war with the Crow Nation. Not that it started as
their fault. Kinda complicated-- Rent the movie. It is pretty good.
Where I live is some of his old "stomping grounds."

You sound like a modern day "Daniel Boone," or Davie Crocket."
I used to go fishing, hunt for reptiles, etc., in the local state park, when
I was a young kid, and I loved it. Since then everything is too polluted for
much wildlife to survive anywhere in the NYC area.
Once I went up to Maine with some guys from work for a hunting weekend and
saw someone shoot a black bear. Then a few times I saw a couple of Moose
too,
but you weren't aloud to shoot them.
