Could this lake be the entrance? Would the HE inhabitants cause this as sort
of a defense mechanism, and that is why the powers that be want to drill
through, and get inside? Maybe [they] let it seal over with ice and the
magnetic anomaly is the actual north pole. I am sure if the top is frozen
over, their crafts can travel under water and surface away from the actual
frozen over pole area.

The guy who approached Cater and told of going in with Byrd, Jim Bowen, told
of marching in and entering in a gradual sort of way, such the the ice
melted, the illumination was constant, vegetation appeared. This lake would
be more along the lines of a tunnel entrance, if that were it, so I doubt
it.
But it could be that there is something there- maybe it is some type of
offshoot, or a frozen-ver ruin.
