There are many versions of Etidorhpa out there, since it is public domain. I
personally own three of them which vary only slightly in content. However, I
purchased each one in the hopes that it was a complete version, of which, to
my disappointment, none were. The original one, which I have read, I checked
out by special permission from a library out of their original editions
department. There were several chapters which preceded the encounter with
the faceless man, which are missing from each of the current editions which I
have purchased. These chapters revealed the individual who published the
original version which he had procured, and alluded to the peril he was in
for doing so. It talked of secret combinations who were determined to keep
this information hidden, and even a witnessed murder that was associated with
its cover-up. These chapters confessed of the involvement of this
individual, but also the disclaimer that he was now publishing the content at
his own expense with no intent on receiving any profit from its publication,
but doing so merely for the purpose of revealing this important and truthful
account to the world -- even at the peril of his own life. This version was
fascinating in its sincerity and candid nature, and it set up the import of
the work in a most austere setting. This original book had a very authentic
hard bound leather covering that testified of antiquity, which had onion skin
paper coverings on the several renderings contained therein. I have been
back to try and relocate this volume, only to be told, to my utter
disappointment, that it had mysteriously disappeared from the library without
a trace; from a very secure department of that library, I might add.
Thus, my plea. . . Has anyone else read this version that I have described,
or are they aware of it, or are they aware of any current publications that
have this prologue included in the book? If not, you are missing a
fascinating segment of this amazing story. There were certain experiments
that were also described and encouraged to be duplicated by the reader, which
the faceless man had prescribed as evidence of his advanced knowledge.
Experiments which would reveal our own hidden abilities to perceive things
without sight, as did the faceless (and eyeless) man. I duplicated some of
these experiments at the time with surprising results. I have hoped to
reproduce these same experiments with even more accurate setup and
observation, but have not been able to relocate the book to be able to do so.
I have to admit, that since that time, and by incorporating some of the
techniques that I recall from the experiments, that I have had some
remarkable ESP type experiences, and have been tested and determined to be an
exceptional ESP subject. I don't know if there is a connection, or if the
ability is deemed from another source, but I don't involve myself much with
this ability any more, or use it in any consistent practice. I just seem to
have a sense about being able to perceive fraud or deceit of even a most
subtle nature, while at the same time, I am drawn to ideas and concepts that
tend to be based on truth. I am told this is a Spiritual Gift. But all
truth is Spiritual, isn't it? Anyway, if you have any knowledge of this
original or expanded version of Etidorhpa or Etidorpha, please respond.
Thanks,
Norlan
Norlan,
If hope that somebody comes up with the original version of Etidorhpa out
there. If so, I'll post the pertinent, " lost " chapters right away. Maybe
there is some library where a person could go.
Mike Maloney- can you think of any such library in NYC?
