<The first chapter is nice enough. Unless you are a physicist or have an understanding of the theory of relativity, chapter two is going to be rough. I suggest that you read the first page and a half about the Michelson-Morely experiment, over to the paragraph that starts with " With this as a starting point," and skip the rest for now. In my case, it is only now, after reading Cater's book for a year, that I am able to incorporate the other parts of that chapter.>
Yes, chapter 2 is tough. I am on page 8, and re-read it 3 times before it started to sink in. I had to strain my brain a bit to follow but am doing OK because as I am reading some things come back to me. The things he states are untrue, so I guess my forgetting most of the physics I studied is a good thing. I will take your advice and re-read the 1.5 pages about the Michelson-Morely experiment again, and then over to the paragraph you suggest.
<The first part about the Michelson-Morely experiments is important. It establishes the existence of ether, actually, it knocks down the so-called scientific experiment which denies the existence of ether.>
This part I understood fairly well, probably because I have always believed ether exits, it is the only thing that makes sense for being able to astral travel. And also, for the ability to see spirits or cross worlds. Ether is talked about in many metaphysical writings, mainly Eastern thought.
<This is important for the student of Fortean-like phenomena, important for the understanding of the astral platform, because science basically doesn't believe in the existence of that platform. This theme is important for the orgone people, orgone is composed of ether particles, as is prana, ( orgone and prana are basically different names for the same thing ). One of the orgone proponents and a follower of Wilheim Reich wrote a nice piece on the existence of ether which you want to read as an auxilery to the first part of chapter two. It is on my ether page, and the title says something about the Shankland analysis. You have to scroll down a bit to get it, it is the sixth title down:>
I was sent an orgone web page today and will take a look at it tomorrow.
I will jump over to your ether page right now, before I get too sleepy. And when I am reading something I want to remember then I read it right before bed, I seem to retain more this way.
<It's necessary to have a little bit of justification and understanding for what we believe in, otherwise we get criticised as sentimentalists or something like that.>----How true that is!!
Good Night
