It may not be so off topic. Who knows if these creatures ventured from the HE
from one of the many caves/tunnels. I thought it was from that line of
thinking when I first read it.

Well, in the same section there is a piece about the Yeti of the Himalayas
and how a Russian patrol corners some Afghan rebels in a cave where the
rebels had killed one. A doctor did an autopsy and describe the creature and
tookmeasurements, so there is reliable proof that the beings come from
underground.
But it is similar to the case of flyingsaucers- everyone has evidence that
they exist, but there is precious little testimony that they comefrom
underneath us. I mean, once you're taken below, you don't exactly come back
to sit in on a TV talk show and tell your tale.
