Mr. Cater mentions vortices of soft particles in relation to the Oregon vortex. He feels that the soft particles are close enough tothe gravity-inducing charge that when they permeate an object, the object tends to lose weight. For this reason people weigh less on the scales and cars will move uphill. The same amount of matter is present, just the total charge changes.

The guy seems to be able to visually perceive soft particles. This seems to correspond to the statement of The Guide in Etidorhpa that " darkness touches on my nerves." I think that cats also are sensitvive to soft particles, just my educated guess.
